OURMEDIA/NUESTROSMEDIOS 2017 MEETING Cartagena de Indias 21-23 JULY 2017
– Call for Participation –
Taking advantage of the opportunity presented to us by the IAMCR2017 Congress in Cartagena, in which many of us will participate, members of the OURMedia / NuestrosMedios Network have decided to hold a meeting to advance our interests of bringing academia together with activism and the production of communication and media to foster dialogues and learnings.
This meeting aims to renew our interests and our dialogues among us and with the communities that also make communication to change the world.
What will we do in this meeting?
It will have two parts:
(1) A very brief meeting between us on Sunday, July 16 – with those who have already arrived – to have lunch between 11am and 4.30pm. During this session we will make a very brief recap of the last two meetings held in 2014 (Papua New Guinea and Dublin) and we will discuss proposals for this year. We will make have an exchange of ideas and we will together set goals for the future.
(2) A field visit at the end of IAMCR2017, from July 21-23, 2017. There will be several routes to visit community communication experiences and engage with the organizations and the leaders that are part of these.
How will we do it?
The methodology is to use the guide we are preparing to inform ourselves prior to visiting these places and experiences to know what and who are we visiting, what are we going to observe and what is expected of us.
The guided visit will be led by Colombian colleagues from OurMedia who know the routes and organizations to be visited very well. They will design each day-to-day experience and coordinate the meetings.
What will we observe, what will we do?
We will meet education and culture communication organizations and local communicators who will sharre how they develop important activities and hoe they have achieved important transformations in their communities.
We will listen to their experiences, visit their environment, the places where they live, work, produce, etc. And we will talk about topics of common interest. Many of these places are rural and coastal.
Who is participating in these visits?
OURMedia members who sign up
REDECAMBIO members who register
IAMCR members who request in writing to be invited and accepted
Each route will consist of 20/25 people because these visits must be limited in number due to the size of the communities where we will go.
What is the cost of this output?
Each route has a different cost (details provided in each description).
The following items must be paid: round trip transportation from Cartagena (ii) hotel in the places of visit (20/21 and 22/23 in each place), breakfast, lunch and dinner (21, 22 and 23 July in each place) and extra money for out of pocket expenses or purchase of handicrafts, etc.
Who pays?
This is a totally self-funded activity covered by each registered participant. There will be no inscriptions, but each participant must pay its own expenses.
What are the routes?
To date we have 4 routes ready, we will design maximum 6, depending on the number of people who sign up.
