Important indications about paper and panel proposals
- Paper proposals should be of 450 to 500 words long, and should list the paper’s title, author’s name, university affiliations, and contact e-mail. The abstract should specify the subject, main question, aims, theoretical framework, methodology and indicate some of the findings, if pertinent.
- Panel proposals should include a title, a rationale for the panel (max 500 words), and the name, university affiliation and e-mail address of the person responsible for the panel. Each panellist should submit an abstract listing the paper’s title, the author’s name, university affiliations, and e-mail. All panels shall include 4 or 5 papers.
- Proposals will be peer reviewed and supervised by a selected team of the History section.
- Criteria for evaluation: 1) theoretical contribution, 2) methods, 3) quality of writing, 4) literature review, 5) relevance of the submission to the work of the section, and 6) originality and/or significance of the work.
Submission of abstracts is to be done online through the IAMCR’s OCS (Open Conference System), using this link: http://iamcr-ocs.org. - The OCS system will be available to receive abstract submissions from December 1, 2016 onwards. The deadline for submission is February 9, 2017 (OCS closed). Early submission is strongly encouraged.
- IAMCR accepts presentations in English, French and Spanish. However, it is requested that abstracts, when possible, be submitted in English to the History section.
- It is expected that for the most part, only one (1) abstract will be submitted per person for consideration by the Conference. However, under no circumstances should there be more than two (2) abstracts bearing the name of the same applicant either individually or as part of any group of authors. Please note also that the same abstract or another version with minor variations in title or content must not be submitted to other Sections or Working Groups of the Association for consideration, after an initial submission. Such submissions will be deemed to be in breach of the conference guidelines and will be automatically rejected by the Open Conference System, by the Head or by the Conference Programme Reviewer. Such applicants risk being removed entirely from the conference programme.
- Upon submission of an abstract, you will be asked to confirm that your submission is original and that it has not been previously published in the form presented. You will also be given an opportunity to declare if your submission is currently before another conference for consideration.
- Presenters are expected to bring fully developed work to the conference. Prior to the conference, it is expected that a completed paper will be submitted to Section Chairs.
- The results of peer reviews of submitted abstracts will be announced by the section heads by April 3, 2017. Full papers must be submitted online by June 26, 2017.
For any further information, please contact the section chair, Nelson Ribeiro (nelson.ribeiro(at)ucp.pt). Consider also to visit IAMCR website: http://iamcr.org/ and the Conference website:
Guidelines for Abstracts
All abstract submissions must be made via IAMCR’s Open Conference System at http://iamcr-ocs.org. There are to be no email submissions of abstracts addressed to Section Head. All abstracts should be between 300 and 500 words in length.
Normally, only one (1) abstract per person will be considered, and under no circumstances should there be more than two (2) abstracts bearing the name of the same author either individually or as part of any group of authors. Please note also that the same abstract or another version with minor variations in title or content must not be submitted to more than one Section or Working Group. Such submissions will be deemed to be in breach of the conference guidelines and will be rejected by the Online Conference System, by the relevant Head or by the Conference Programme Reviewer. Authors submitting them risk being removed entirely from the conference programme.
Panel submissions
The Online Conference System permits panel submissions. However, in the past we have received multiple panel proposals with overlapping themes which then have to be accepted or rejected in their entirety. In order to allow more flexibility and optimum panel composition, please follow the procedure below for panel proposals:
a) Identify the panel topic and up to four (4) presenters.
b) Submit the four abstracts as individual submissions.
c) The chair of the panel should submit the panel proposal as a standard panel proposal including the names and titles of the 4 papers to be presented.
For further information, please consult the conference website or contact the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) by email at cartagena2017@iamcr.org.
Criteria for Evaluation
Submitted abstracts will generally be evaluated on the basis of:
- General coherence and relevance to the political economy section
- Evidence of theoretical/ methodological rigour
- Empirical or conceptual originality which extends/provokes debate about the field of political economy
- Gives voice to subaltern/under-represented groups/countries, or facilitates resistance/praxis
